It's Summer Reading Time!

It's that time of year again, when young people can read for fun over the summer and earn prizes while doing it! That's right, it's time for the San Rafael Public Library's Children's and Tween Summer Reading Programs!

You can check out all the information about how to sign up and what you have to do to earn prizes on our Youth Summer Reading Programs page.

Participants can pre-register starting Tuesday, May 29th! The program officially starts June 8th and goes until August 3rd. Participants can start counting their reading and earning prizes on June 8th.

As always, we have some fabulous prizes this year! For kids in grades K-5 who are reading independently, we have pencils, erasers, keychains, legoland coupons, paperback books, Giants tickets, Warriors tickets, and more!

Youth in grades 6-8 can sign up for our Tween program to also earn Giants or Warriors tickets, as well as Double Rainbow and Arizmendi Bakery coupons, iTunes giftcards, gift certificates for art supplies and comic books, and more!

And don't forget, we'll also have craft programs, book clubs, and other fun activities for all ages at your San Rafael Public Library!

Free Comic Book Day

Did you know that on May 5th, you can visit your local comic book store and receive a free comic book, no purchase necessary? That is the beauty of Free Comic Book Day! Every year, comic book stores everywhere celebrate and promote comic books and sequential art for all ages by offering free comic books to the public. This is a wonderful event not just for existing comic book fans, but for those who are new to comic books and graphic novels as well.

The comic and graphic novel collection in the children's room at the San Rafael Public Library is one of the most popular sections in the whole library, so we know we have a lot of young comic book fans in San Rafael who will want to participate in Free Comic Book Day! To get your free comic books, visit Blue Moon Comics located in downtown San Rafael on May 5th. Blue Moon Comics is a sponsor of our upcoming Tween Summer Reading Program, and we are proud to refer our patrons to their knowledgeable staff!

For other local comic book stores, visit the Comic Shop Locator!
