Marin Comic Fest – Meet Thi Bui

The San Rafael Public Library is pleased to be a part of the inaugural Marin Comics Fest!
Thi Bui was born in Vietnam and came to the U.S. as one of the refugee “boat people” of the 1970s. She studied art and legal studies at the University of California, Berkeley, and received an MFA in Sculpture from Bard College and a Masters in Art Education from New York University. She is a founding teacher of Oakland International High School, where she edited and published teenagers’ immigrant stories told as comics, and taught them to make their own movies. Her work has been published in The Asian American Literary Review and Hyphen Magazine. Her graphic novel The Best We Could Do debuted in March of this year.
