Read to a Dog

Saturday @ 11am-12pm
October 14th, November 11th, December 12th

Readers aged 5 and older are invited to book an appointment to read to a dog at the San Rafael Public Library! Make your appointment at the Children’s Reference Desk, or call us at 415-485-3322.

Dogs are ideal reading partners, providing comfort and unconditional acceptance that can allow children to focus better and read with greater confidence. The Marin Humane Society’s SHARE a Book program is designed to help children improve their literacy skills, and to offer an opportunity for them to have fun reading – to dogs!

 

Gaming Afternoon

Thursday, September 21 @ 4pm-7pm

Join us for a fun afternoon of board games! We’ll have old and new favorites, with selections for all ages. There will be a Magic the Gathering master on hand to guide young planeswalkers. Come and play with us!

This is a drop-in event; no registration required!

 

 

Dia de los Muertos Paper Arts with Rachel-Anne Palacios

Thursday, October 19 @ 4pm

Come celebrate Day of the Dead with artist Rachel-Anne Palacios! Learn about some of the traditions behind the celebration. Build your own ofrenda to remember your loved ones, and create fun take home items like calavera, jaguar and butterfly masks, dancing skeleton puppets and paper marigolds!

This program has something to offer for families with kids of all ages! No registration required.

 

 

Middle School Button Making

Wednesday, October 25 @ 3:30pm

Help us break-in our fancy new button maker! We’ll provide everything you need to make oodles of creative buttons to pin on your jacket, backpack, or wherever you need a little extra flair.

This program is for middle school aged youth in grades in grades 6-8. To register, call us at (415)485-3322, or visit the Children’s Reference desk.

 

 

 

Reading Buddies

Monday September 25 – Friday December 15

*Signups begin Monday August 28

*Appointments will be available weekdays after school and weekends. Call the Children’s Desk at 415-485-3322 for specific dates and times, and to make an appointment.

Reading Buddies pairs adult and teen volunteers with elementary school aged youth (grades 1-3) for 20 minute appointments. During the appointment, the child will practice reading with their Reading Buddy one-on-one, and receive help and guidance with difficult words, comprehension, and other reading skills. We also have bilingual volunteers available who can help in both English and Spanish.

 

Math Club

Thursdays, September 28 – December 14, 4-5pm

(No club on October 5 or November 23)

Strengthen your math skills at the Library! Math Club will provide  students in 4th-7th grade the opportunity to practice and train their math skills in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. They will work on their level-appropriate assigned worksheets strengthen their foundation and learn useful tricks.
