Great Books Reading & Discussion Group
1st Thursday of the month from 1:30 to 3:00 pm in the Library Meeting Room.
A monthly discussion of literature as “a fun and challenging way to become thoughtful, more engaged citizens.” The readings range from nonfiction to fiction and ancient to modern, based on selections from the Great Books Foundation. The discussion is free and open to all. Led by Louis C. Rutledge.
Monday Night Reading & Discussion Group *We have moved this book club online in April due to the COVID-19 shelter in place order and library closure.
Join us on Monday April 6 from 6:30 to 7:15 pm via Zoom video conference for a book discussion facilitated by Librarian Pam Klein. We will be discussing Katherine Anne Porter’s novella “Pale Horse, Pale Rider” which is about the relationship between a Denver newspaper woman, Miranda and a soldier, Adam, during the influenza epidemic of 1918. This compelling story follows the illness and delirium of Miranda, and is based in part on Porter’s own illness while working for the Rocky Mountain News in Denver.
This novella is included in a collection of 3 stories also titled Pale Horse, Pale Rider and is found online at the Open Library in audio and print formats:
