Instructor Beryn Hammil will email you a welcome packet that includes detailed instructions on how to participate in the live Zoom meeting, stream from YouTube, or receive recap videos. You must register in advance on Zoom each week for each class you want to attend. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing links for joining the meeting 15 minutes before class.

Each topic will cover information for the Mac computer, iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Plus, now specific classes about the Apple Watch are also included in the schedule.

These class topics were put together based on input from students, and while some of these topics have been taught recently, there’s always something new to learn in each. The content of each topic description will be adhered to, but discussion is not limited to just what’s presented in this schedule as one thing often leads to another.

Doors for class will open 15 minutes prior to that class starting and we will start on time. When the class capacity of 100 participants is reached in the live Zoom room, those who get “locked out” will be able to view the class by live streaming it on YouTube. This is called the “Balcony Section.” Those who are registered to participate by half past the hour prior to class starting will receive an email with the link to the live stream. It will be sent out within 15 minutes of the class starting. If you’re viewing the class from the balcony, you will not be able to raise your hand to ask questions but can learn something new nonetheless.

At the end of each class participants can stay for a Q&A session about that or any other topic. Because many people leave at the formal end of class, those who are watching the class from the balcony section will be able to join the live after-class Q&A to have their questions answered. Simply go back to the original link you received to the join the Zoom class and use that to get in.

A recap video of each class will be available so you can review material on YouTube, and you can build your own library of them, but you must participate in that class to receive access to it. Instructions for how to do this are given in the orientation email you received with your welcome packet as well as in the email for the live stream YouTube link sent out before each class starts.

Pre-registration is a requisite for each class. Invitations to register are sent out each THURSDAY morning for the following week’s class, and you must register for each class.

The time shown for all classes is Pacific Time; please adjust accordingly for where you are.

FEBRUARY CLASS SCHEDULE: IT’S ALL ABOUT OUR HEALTH!

APPLE DEVICES MAKE IT EASY TO KEEP TRACK OF IT.

This month’s class “umbrella” topic is our health. Using various Apple devices with their health-related apps, plus some 3rd party apps, makes it easy to monitor, manage, and track how well we’re doing and the adjustments that need to be made to improve our basic health.

Additionally, our iPhones have the ability to reach out to specific people as well as the police in case you’re having a medical emergency, so we’ll review how to set this important function up so it’s ready with the hopes that we never need to use it, but comfortable in the knowledge that it’s there if we do.

The Apple Watch has a lot of health-related features in it so I’ll be teaching how to use it to monitor our health. This class is designed specifically for students who either already have an Apple Watch or are seriously interested in acquiring one soon.

Because switching back and forth between the iPhone and iPad is not do-able during our Zoom class, whatever the discussion and demonstration is for the iPhone, it’s usually also applicable to the iPad too.

As you can imagine, this is a very rich topic in terms of what this technology offers, so we’ll be reviewing aspects of it from an overview perspective only. Additionally, your input about useful 3rd party health related apps and devices will make a valuable contribution to the learning experience of others.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 7th – MEDICAL I.D., EMERGENCY CONTACT INFO & SOS
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Our iPhones have the ability to notify specific people, as well as the police, if we need medical assistance. It also can include important information that’s useful for EMT’s and doctors to know immediately, even if you’re not able to communicate with them yourself. Learn how to set up this important function so it’s readily available if ever needed.
Once you’ve learned how to set up your emergency contacts, you’ll learn how to use the Emergency SOS function on your iPhone so help is just a button or a Siri command away.
APPLE WATCH ADD-ON CLASS – FALL-DETECTION FEATURE & SOS
3:45 – 4:30
Learn how to set up and use the “fall-detection” feature on your Apple Watch in conjunction with the Emergency Contact function. And learn how to use Emergency SOS on your Apple Watch so you can call for help when you need it or let your Apple Watch make the call for you if you’re not able to do this.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14th – EXERCISE & DIET RELATED APPS – SORRY, THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Achieving good health requires exercise as well as a good diet. Learn how to use Apple’s Activity app plus 3rd party apps to monitor your activity progress. Apps that inform us and help keep us on track to manage our weight and overall wellness through what we eat are also beneficial to good health, so we’ll review a few of them as well.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21st – THE iPHONE’s HEALTH APP – AN OVERVIEW – SORRY, THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Apple’s Health app makes it easy to learn details about our health and help us reach our wellness goals. It consolidates our health data from the information we add to the iPhone as well as 3rd party apps so we can view our stats and progress all in one place.
You don’t need to have an Apple Watch for this app to give you information about your health in order to help you manage it, but it can add useful data to give you a more comprehensive picture of your stats.
APPLE WATCH ADD-ON CLASS – THE HEALTH APP ON THE APPLE WATCH
3:45 – 4:30
Learn how to use the Health App in the Apple Watch in conjunction with the iPhone to monitor various health related functions and even share some specific data with your doctors and others.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28th, 2023 – Q&A and OPEN DISCUSSION
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Instead of my trying to reconstruct the original calendar of the missed classes, we’ll have your favorite topic: Tips & Tricks, Q&A and Open Discussion.
Bring your questions and I’ll do my best to answer them or we’ll search for the answer online together so you can learn how to find your own answers in the future.
If you know what your question is in advance of the class, please email it to me no later than 12 N on Monday so I can prepare the answer for you.
Basic questions about your Apple Watch will be taken in this class too.
