Math Club

Thursdays, March 2nd-June 1st*, 4-5pm
*No club on April 13th

Come to Math Club at the Library! Math club will provide  students in 4th-7th grades the opportunity to practice and train their math skills in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. They will work on their level-appropriate assigned work to strengthen their foundation and learn useful tricks. Register at the Children’s Reference Desk, or by calling (415)485-3322

 

DIA DE LOS NIÑOS/ DIA DE LOS LIBROS

Saturday, April 22nd @ 11:30am-1:00pm

Families with children of all ages are invited to the library to celebrate Dia de los Niños/ Dia de los Libros! Join us on our front lawn for Bilingual Music Time with Mariela Herrera, movement and dancing, a book giveaway and outdoor games. No registration required! Sponsored by the Friends of the San Rafael Public Library.

 

Harry Potter Herbology with Professor Ane Carla Rovetta

For families with kids of all ages

In the Hogwart’s tradition, we welcome Professor Ane Carla Rovetta, storyteller and authority on the cyclical magic of nature. Families with children of all ages are invited on this nature walk, whereupon they will learn the folklore and property of plants from firsthand observations, followed by a wreath-making activity that symbolizes the cyclical return of spring. Enjoy this walk along with talisman creation as you learn the science and magic of nature around us.

Read to a Dog

Saturdays @ 11am-12pm
April 8th, May 13th, June 10th, July 8th & August 12th

Readers aged 5 and older are invited to book an appointment to read to a dog at the San Rafael Public Library! Make your appointment at the Children’s Reference Desk, or call us at 415-485-3322.

Dogs are ideal reading partners, providing comfort and unconditional acceptance that can allow children to focus better and read with greater confidence. The Marin Humane Society’s SHARE a Book program is designed to help children improve their literacy skills, and to offer an opportunity for them to have fun reading – to dogs!

Reading Buddies

Spring 2017: Tuesday January 17 – Saturday June 3

Reading Buddies pairs adult and teen volunteers with children in 1st – 3rd grades for 20 minute appointments. During the appointment, the child will practice reading with their Reading Buddy one-on-one, and receive help and guidance with difficult words, comprehension, and other reading skills. We also have bilingual volunteers available who can help in both English and Spanish.

Weekly appointments are available on:

  • Mondays 4-5 pm
  • Tuesdays 4-5 pm
  • Wednesdays 5-6 pm
  • First and Third Saturdays 10-11 am
