The New York Times Online

Library card holders can use remote passes to view app from home or from a device. Passes give you unlimited access for a 24 hour period and you can use them as many times as you like!

Accessing the “Library Access” NYT

Step 1: Get a code

From the library’s eReources page, scroll down to the Newspaper section and click on The New York Times. Click the NYT button to access the library’s portal.

You’ll be taken to a screen with the heading “Enjoy a Special Offer from The New York Times” with a code already filled in – click the “Redeem” button and you’ll be taken to a screen to either create a “library access” account (if this is your first time) or to log into an already existing “library access” account (not a paid subscription).

Step 2: Login or Create an Account

In order to use your code, you’ll need to associate it with a “library access” account. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to “create one”. Sign up with your email (and give yourself a password) or sign up through your existing Facebook or Twitter accounts. You might already have a “library access” account, in which case you should click the small “Log in” link instead, below the Create an Account section. If you’ve forgotten your password you can follow the prompts to have it sent to you again.

Step 3: Use your pass

Once you’ve either logged in with a current “library access” account or created an account, you’ll be taken to a SUCCESS page which tells you your pass is active. Just click on The New York Times logo at the top of the page (regardless of any other message you get).

Your pass will work on any computer where you log in to your library account, so you can use it on your iPad, work computer, laptop, wherever.
If you have the New York Times app, or want to download it, you’ll also have unlimited 24 hour access there as well once you’ve logged into the app with your library account. You’ll also get a confirmation email sent to whichever email account you used to sign up with It will tell you when your pass was activated and when it will expire.

You pass is good for 24 hours, after that you will need to access your “library” NYTimes account in the same way – entering through the library sResources portal, logging-in, clicking the “Redeem” button, and clicking on the NYT logo at the top of the page.

There are some situations that will result in an error message:

  • You already have a account set up and you try to login on the “Sign Up” screen instead of the “Log In” screen.
  • You try to login on the “Log In” screen and you don’t have an account yet, in which case “Create and Account” first.
  • You already have a paid digital subscription to associated with your email address.
  • You currently have a remote pass activated (if your 24 hours isn’t up yet.)
