Building Healthy Soil – Marin Master Gardeners
1100 E St
San Rafael, CA 94901
USA
Healthy soil is the foundation for healthy plants and our entire ecosystem. Come and learn about soil ecology and the organisms that are vital to the health of our plants and our planet. You’ll hear about the benefits of healthy soil, how to improve and maintain your soil by composting your garden and kitchen waste and by providing a protective cover of mulch and how to correct poor soil conditions, such as heavy clay and compacted soil.
Speaker, Betsy McGee, has been a Marin Master Gardener since 2008 and oversees community composting as one of the garden coordinators for the Larkspur Community Garden. A few years ago she re-landscaped her own garden from a “lawn-centric” design to one that is water-wise and provides habitat for wildlife; her garden was one of the featured Marin gardens on the Bay-Friendly Gardening Tour in 2012.
