Genealogy Series: Hands on Workshop with Ancestry.com

Genealogy Series with the Marin County Genealogical Society

Join us for our Genealogy Series, hosted by the Marin County Genealogical Society.

Workshop: Ancestry.com
This is a hands on workshop; each participant will be working on a laptop or tablet of their own as we walk through the basics of using Ancestry.com. The library has Chromebooks available for check-out if participants do not have their own devices.

Participants will:

  • Begin a family tree
  • Learn about the types of records on Ancestry.com
  • Conduct a search for their ancestors in records database at Ancestry
  • Save records & images

About the presenters:

Anita McPherson and Kathleen Devlin:
Genealogists from the Marin County Genealogical Society will demonstrate how to use the many resources provided by Ancestry.com

Biking Adventure / Aventura en Bicicleta

Registration and parent permission required; call or visit Pickleweed Library.

Preference given to children who live in the Canal and are new to biking!

Learn about bike safety and then participate in a supervised local ride. We meet at Pickleweed Park with bikes, helmets, and water bottles provided, as well as transportation to off-site rides. Presented in partnership with Trips for Kids

This program is brought to you thanks to the support of The Friends of the Library.

Se requiere inscripción y permiso de los padres; llame o visite la Biblioteca Pickleweed

Aprende sobre seguridad al andar en bicicleta y luego participa en un paseo local supervisado. Nos reunimos en el parque de Pickleweed con bicicletas, cascos y botellas de agua, así como el transporte a paseos en otra locación. Presentado en colaboración con Trips for Kids. If you are new to the class and would like to register for classes in November, please email: bonnie.groshong@cityofsanrafael.org

Your request will be forwarded to the instructor who will send you a welcome packet with joining instructions after November 5th.

Ancestry.com provides powerful tools to unlock your ancestor’s lives, learn how to search through billions of records from all over the world and build a family tree to store and organize your family history. We will cover both the library edition and the subscription version of Ancestry.com.

About the presenter:
Sierra Pope is an accomplished genealogist who has researched ancestors all over the world – including Germany, the DAR Library in Washington DC, and many graveyards and  courthouses along the way. Sierra is a former President of the Marin County Genealogical Society.

Nancy O’Connor Evans, from the Marin County Genealogical Society, has been researching her family history for many years and is a frequent speaker on several genealogy topics including Ancestry.com, DNA for Genealogy, and Irish Genealogy.

Teen Drop-In Art & Games

Come to the Downtown library and have some fun! We’ll have an array of board games, tabletop games, and VR headsets set out to use, as well as a bunch of different art supplies. Feel free to bring your own sketchbooks and tools, your newest MTG deck build, that D&D character sheet you’ve been working on, or anything else!

This event is for teens in grades 7-12.

The Marin Humane Society’s SHARE a Book program is designed to help children improve their literacy skills, and to offer an opportunity for them to have fun reading – to dogs!

This program is intended for emerging readers in grades 1-3 who would love some fun, low-pressure reading time.
