Dogs are ideal reading partners, providing comfort and unconditional acceptance that can allow children to focus better and read with greater confidence. The Marin Humane Society’s SHARE a Book program is designed to help children improve their literacy skills, and to offer an opportunity for them to have fun reading – to dogs!

This program is intended for emerging readers in grades 1-3 who would love some fun, low-pressure reading time.

Process Art

Process Art

Happening at all 3 locations:

Downtown (1100 E St)
Pickleweed (50 Canal St)
Northgate (5800 Northgate Dr)

Process Art emphasizes the process of making art. It is about the experience we have while creating, rather than the outcome; there is no right or wrong way to explore. Each session new materials and techniques will be offered, with a tie-in to a famous artist whose work influences our exploration.

This series of programs is for all ages, from very small children to older adults! Wear clothes that are okay to get messy.

Bilingual Author Talk with Reyna Grande

Reyna Grande author talk with Yaccaira Salvatierra

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, award-winning author Reyna Grande will join us in a bilingual conversation with poet Yaccaira Salvatierra to celebrate the release of her novel, A Ballad of Love and Glory, set during the Mexican American War, and the anthology, Somewhere We Are Human: Authentic Voices on Migration, Survival, and New Beginnings. Q&A and book-signing will follow. 

Reyna Grande is the best-selling author of The Distance Between Us, available in both adult and young reader editions, in which she writes about her life before and after she arrived in the US from Mexico as an undocumented child immigrant. Her writings on immigration, family separation, language trauma, the price of the American Dream, and her writing journey have garnered multiple awards. Her books have been adopted as common reads by schools, colleges, and cities across the US. 

Yaccaira Salvatierra is a California poet and translator. She is a dedicated educator to resilient, historically marginalized communities. A daughter of immigrants from México and Perú, she lives in Oakland, California. 

A Ballad of Love and Glory by Reyna Grande


Para celebrar el Mes de la Herencia Hispana, la galardonada escritora Reyna Grande presentará el lanzamiento de su novela “Un Corrido de Amor y Gloria” a través de una plática/charla/entrevista bilingüe con la poetisa Yaccaira Salvatierra.

Su nueva novela está basada en el periodo de tiempo de la guerra mexicano-estadounidense, y también en la antología de “Somewhere We Are Human: Voces auténticas sobre la migración, la supervivencia y los nuevos comienzos.”

Al final de la entrevista, habrá una sesión de preguntas y respuestas y una firma de libros.

Reyna Grande es la escritora más vendida de “La distancia entre nosotros”, en la que relata sobre su vida antes y después de llegar a Estados Unidos desde México como niña inmigrante indocumentada. Esta obra está disponible en ediciones para adultos y para jóvenes. Sus escritos hablan sobre la inmigración, la separación familiar, el trauma lingüístico y familiar, el precio del Sueño Americano. Reyna en su trayectoria como escritora ha recibido múltiples premios y sus obras literarias ya forman parte de la colección de enseñanza en escuelas, universidades y ciudades de todo Estados Unidos.

Yaccaira Salvatierra es poeta y traductora en California. Es una educadora dedicada a las comunidades históricamente marginadas y resilientes. Hija de inmigrantes de México y Perú, vive en Oakland, California.
