Master Storyteller, Ane Carla Rovetta, is also an illustrator! Come hear her tell a magical folktale about a local animal. Next, watch her bring that animal “to life” as she teaches the audience how to draw it using a few swift strokes with the colorful chalks she provides for you. Each participant will take home their bright artwork and even brighter memories.

RAISED IN THE SHADOW OF THE BOMB

Author D. Leah Steinberg writes about her father and uncle who worked on the development of the first atomic bombs and how that affected her family as well as her formative years. This book also draws upon the experiences of other children who similarly were raised in the shadow of the bomb with stories to tell.

Learn all about bike safety and maintenance at Pickleweed Park – then go on a supervised bike ride through the area! Presented in partnership with Trips for Kids. Registration and parent permission required, and space is limited. Contact the Pickleweed Library for more information.

Aprende todo sobre la seguridad y mantenimiento de bicicletas en el Parque Pickleweed.  Al terminar la capacitación, daremos un paseo en bicicleta por la zona. Children’s author talk: Michael Genhart

Please join us for a fun presentation of local author Michael Genhart’s children’s picture book, May Your Life Be Deliciosa, available in English and Spanish. Michael will talk about the inspiration behind his book and the tradition of tamalada tamale-making fiestas. He will also lead the audience in a matching word game, and all participants will receive a book-related coloring page to take home.   

Drag Storytime

Join us for an all-ages drag storytime and pride party on the lawn! Everyone is welcome to join us for storytime with a special drag performer, and stay for some fun activities for all ages afterwards. We’ll have bubbles and sidewalk chalk, board games, and some plant pots to decorate. Dress in an outfit that makes you feel special!

The Spahr Center will also have information about their programs and services at this event.

About the performer:

Hennessy Williams is a Chinese American Oakland-based drag performer. They are the founder of the all-BIPOC king show at El Rio, ROYALES. They are the reigning Mx. NorCal Quing Pageant winner and has headlined at the Austin International Drag Pageant and performed at the Oaklash Drag Festival.
