Instructor Beryn Hammil will email you a welcome packet that includes detailed instructions on how to participate in the live Zoom meeting, stream from YouTube, or receive recap videos. You must register in advance on Zoom each week for each class you want to attend. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing links for joining the meeting 15 minutes before class.
Each topic will cover information for the Mac computer, iPhone, iPad and the Apple Watch (as appropriate). These class topics were put together based on input from students, and while some of these topics have been taught recently, there’s always something new to learn in each. The content of each topic description will be adhered to, but discussion is not limited to just what’s presented in this schedule as one thing often leads to another.
“Doors” for class will open 15 minutes prior to that class starting and we will start on time. When the class capacity of 100 participants is reached in the live Zoom room, those who get “locked out” will be able to view the class by live streaming it on YouTube. This is called the “Balcony Section.” Those who are registered to participate by half past the hour prior to class starting will receive an email with the link to the live stream. It will be sent out within 15 minutes of the class starting. If you’re viewing the class from the balcony, you will not be able to raise your hand to ask questions but can learn something new, nonetheless.
At the end of each class participants can stay for a Q&A session about that or any other topic. Because many people leave at the formal end of class, those who are watching the class from the balcony section will be able to join the live after-class Q&A to have their questions answered. Simply go back to the original link you received to the join the Zoom class and use that to get in.
A recap video of each class will be available so you can review material on YouTube, and you can build your own library of them, but you must participate in that class to receive access to it. Instructions for how to do this are given in the orientation email you received with your welcome packet as well as in the email for the live stream YouTube link sent out before each class starts.
Pre-registration is a requisite for each class. Once you receive the welcome packet from Beryn, invitations to register are sent out each THURSDAY morning for the following week’s class, and you must register for each class.
Time shown for the classes are Pacific Time.

February Class Schedule:
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 4th – THE PHOTOS APP
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
In the latest operating system (OS) update, Apple, in their infinite wisdom, did a major
overhaul and redesign of how this app functions. It’s been confusing for many, and
requires patience to make it work as efficiently as the older version did. So, let’s review
how to maximize this new design and take the frustration out of the experience.TUESDAY,
FEBRUARY 11th – PERSONALIZING THE APPEARANCE OF OUR DEVICES
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
With the latest OS upgrade, we were given an opportunity to be more creative with how
our mobile devices look, and even function. And while some of us (myself included)
don’t take easily to these kinds of changes, some of them are, in fact, kind of nifty, and
even helpful. Being able to lock some 3rd party apps and organize the Control Center
differently than in the past come to mind. With that said, let’s review what’s available
and how to implement them.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18th – THE MAPS APP
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
With each OS upgrade Apple’s Maps apps gets smarter, more efficient, and easier to use.
It also gives us interesting ways to plan trips, whether they’re short to do errands or long
like a road trip. While we’re housebound and coping with winter weather (unless you’ve
migrated to a more pleasant climate), let’s learn about how to use this app more
effectively.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 25th – TIPS & TRICKS AND OPEN DISCUSSION
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
As always, there are clever ways to do this and that on our Apple devices. The topic of
keyboard shortcuts immediately comes to mind. Other handy tips make using our devices
more efficient and effective. We’ll review a list of these and have a lively discussion to
go with it

OCTOBER CLASS SCHEDULE
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7th – NO CLASS
I’m honored to have been asked to be a witness for a friend’s wedding that’s happening this day at noon, so we’ll just have to skip today’s class.
TUESDAY, OCTBER 14th – APPLE INTELLIGENCE
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Now that we’re up to speed on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in general, it’s time for us to learn what Apple’s proprietary AI system is, and how it’s different from all the others.
In this class we’ll review what Apple Intelligence is and how we can use the tools that are readily available in all our Apple devices so that we can be more productive, creative, and well-informed.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 21st – ON-LINE SECURITY
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Sadly, this topic never gets old nor does it go out of date as the bad guys are finding more and more clever ways to separate us from our personal information and money.
And while many of you have been part of this class before, there’s always new information to learn about how to protect ourselves, especially with AI in the mix. And besides, reminders of how to do this are always a good thing.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28th – OUR DIGITAL LEGACY
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
In the legal world this is a hot topic. But for many of us we don’t give a second thought to what happens to all the stuff that we’ve put online and all the accounts that we’ve created for socializing, shopping and bill paying.
So, what happens to these accounts when we’re gone? To whom does the burden fall to handle everything? And how do they turn everything off? Learn how can we make it easier for them by being well organized and prepared.

JANUARY CLASS SCHEDULE
With the start of a new year, we’ve all made promises to ourselves to get fitter, perhaps by managing our diets to lose a few pounds, to lower cholesterol or blood pressure, and for sure, to exercise more. So, let’s spend time this month learning how to use our Apple devices and AI to support us in this endeavor. Who knows, maybe we’ll actually succeed this year!
TUESDAY, JANUARY 6th – HEALTH APP & SOS 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM First, let’s learn what Apple’s Health app can besides measure and monitor stuff. Did you know that your iPhone can call someone should something untoward happen to you? Yes, it can. Whether you live alone or with others, learn how to set up your emergency contact function so someone will be notified immediately, including EMT’s to get you to a hospital in a timely manner. Having the Apple watch helps, but it’s not a deal breaker.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 13th – HEALTH & FITNESS 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM Let’s delve deeper into what Apple’s health app can monitor and how to use the Fitness app to take things to another level. We’ll also review how to use AI to help us get healthier with menu planning and more and keep us motivated when it seems like a lost cause.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 20th – THE FILES & PREVIEW APPS 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM Since being well-organized contributes to our mental well-being, let’s review these two invaluable apps so our minds are doing better as well.

FEBRUARY CLASS SCHEDULE
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 3rd – ZOOM, WIDGETS & CONTROL CENTER
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Let’s all get on the same page about how to register for classes, how to efficiently add the class to your calendar after registering, how to be reminded before class starts so you don’t miss the beginning, and how to cancel your reservation if your plans change. We’ll also review how to save the Invitation to Register and the Confirmation emails so you can easily retrieve them should you need to refer back to their contents.
We’ll also review the Widgets and Control Center functions on the Mac and iPhone, and how to organize your iPhone’s Home Screen to accommodate your Widgets.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10th – PHOTOS; Where they are in the app & organizing them
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
A popular topic, and one worth repeating as it seems that this area regularly changes where the functions are with each software upgrade.
As well, because we take sooo many photos, periodically it’s worth reviewing how to organize them so they’re easy to find.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17th – PHOTOS; some basic editing techniques
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Now that our photos are well-organized, let’s review how to make them look better.
We’ll review some basic editing techniques, as well as a few tips on how to take better photos so there’s better content to edit.
