If you are new to All Things Apple! and would like to get on the contact list for classes, please contact Librarian, Bonnie Groshong at: bonnie.groshong@cityofsanrafael.org
Instructor, Beryn Hammil, will then email you a welcome packet that includes instructions for how to participate in the Zoom meeting. You must register in advance on Zoom each week for each class you want to attend. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing links to joining the meeting.
Class topics will be divided into Part 1 at 2pm and Part 2 at 4pm. You’re welcome to participate in any and all classes, and for some topics you’re encouraged to participate in both parts to maximize the learning experience of that subject.
Each topic will cover information for the Mac computer, iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
These class topics were put together based on input from students, and while some of these topics have been taught recently, there’s always something new to learn in each. The content of each topic description will be adhered to, but discussion is not limited to just what’s presented in this schedule as one thing often leads to another.
Doors for each class will open 15 minutes prior to that class starting and we will start on time. When the class capacity of 100 participants is reached in the live Zoom room, those who get “locked out” will be able to view the class by live streaming it on YouTube. This is called the “Balcony Section.” Those who are registered to participate by half past the hour prior to class starting will receive an email with the link to the live stream. It will be sent out within 15 minutes of the class starting. If you’re viewing the class from the balcony you will not be able to raise your hand to ask questions but can nonetheless learn something new.
At the end of each class participants can stay for a Q&A session about that or any other topic. Because many people leave at the formal end of class, those who are watching the class from the balcony section will be able to join the live after-class Q&A to have their questions answered. Simply go back to the original link you received to the join the Zoom class and use that to get in.
A recap video of each class will be available so you can review material on YouTube, and you can build your own library of them, but you must participate in that class to receive access to it. Instructions for how to do this are given in the orientation email you received with your welcome packet as well as in the email for the live stream YouTube link sent out before each class starts.
Pre-registration is a requisite for each class, even if there are two on the same day. Invitations to register are sent out each THURSDAY morning for the following week’s classes, and you must register for each class separately.
The time shown for all classes is Pacific Time; please adjust accordingly for where you are.
If you know in advance that you have a specific question, please email it to me no later than 4:00 PM (PDT) the day before the class so I can prepare the answer.

Mariela’s Music Time is an educational, energetic and interactive bilingual performance for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers and their families. It’s filled with rhythms and multicultural sounds, along with the rich traditions of our Bay Area. For the past decade, Mariela has drawn upon her background in music and studies of Early Childhood Education to create a program that not only explores the music, but also addresses the kids’ curiosity by telling the history of the instruments and their cultures. She uses kinesthetic techniques in her bilingual storytelling to make foreign words understood. In no time, the kids are singing in another language as they dance and have fun.

FAMSF Docent, Kathryn Zupsic will present her online slide talk on Wangechi Mutu: I Am Speaking, Are You Listening?
Over the past two decades, Wangechi Mutu has created chimerical images (paintings and sculptures) of powerful female characters, hybrid beings, and fantastical landscapes. With a rare understanding of the power and need for new mythologies—the productive friction of opposites beyond simple binaries and stereotypes—Mutu breaches common distinctions among human, animal, plant, and machine. She moves between cultural traditions to challenge colonialist, racist, and sexist worldviews with her visionary projection of an alternate universe informed by Afrofuturism, post-humanism, and feminism. Mutu’s exhibition aims to spur “a purposeful examination of art histories, mythologies, and the techniques of archiving and remembering.”
Bouquets to Art, inspired by works of art in the de Young museum’s galleries, is one of the most popular and highly anticipated events at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco
Have you ever wondered how this annual floral celebration got started? This talk will reveal what goes on behind-the-scenes to make this highly successful event happen each year.
Learn how talented Bay Area designers use flowers and other natural elements to create dazzling displays inspired by works of art in the museum’s collections. Don’t miss your chance to get an inside look at this unique event that’s become a San Francisco tradition.
FAMSF Docent Speaker: Maureen Murray Fox

Join us for a celebration of the life and work of pioneering feminist artist, Judy Chicago, who rose to international prominence with her landmark installation The Dinner Party, which was first exhibited in San Francisco in 1979.
Judy Chicago: A Retrospective is the first exhibition to offer a comprehensive overview of the artist’s entire career. This talk will explore Chicago’s full body of work, from her early forays into minimalism to her current work that addresses mortality and environmental issues.
This exhibition is organized on the heels of the fortieth anniversary of the first showing of The Dinner Party in San Francisco and in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote in the United States.
It is a fitting tribute to an artist who has spent a lifetime fighting for social justice and female expression.
At the De Young August 28, 2021 – January 9, 2022
Please register on Zoom in advance or at the time of the event:
Color into Line: Pastels from the Renaissance to the Present
With the appearance of painting, the immediacy of drawing, and the matte finish of a fresco, pastel is one of the most versatile mediums used throughout art history. This exhibition spans five centuries of art, from the early Renaissance to present day. Drawing heavily on treasures from the Legion’s Achenbach Collection for Graphic Arts, the exhibition features masterpieces by artists including Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas, and Wayne Thiebaud. This talk will trace the history of pastels while also providing audiences a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to appreciate rare works not usually on public view.
At the Legion of Honor October 9, 2021 – February 13, 2022
