Come see why CA native plants are all the rage! You will learn what a native plant is, why they’re the cornerstone of a sustainable, Earth-friendly Garden, and the many benefits these gorgeous plants offer the gardener as well as the broader environment. Participants will learn which natives to grow and how to care for them.
Presenter, Marie Narlock has been a UC Marin Master Gardener since 2004. She studied landscape design through the UC Berkeley Extension and Merritt College and completed sustainable landscape classes at Sonoma State. She writes articles for the Marin IJ and is editor of the Leaflet, the UC Marin Master Gardener e-newsletter. Marie has designed demonstration gardens for the Marin County fair over the years and she co-designed and managed the Marin Ventures Garden that serves developmentally disabled adults.
In this presentation, Ron Filson will strive to make sense of the history of gardening, the evolution of irrigation, and the idea of seasonal supplemental watering and the devices we use to apply water in our gardens. The general theme is earth-friendly gardening. Our mission as Master Gardeners is to educate the general public about selecting plants and keeping them healthy without using excess water.
Ron’s approach to irrigation is novel and multifaceted. Stimulated by the drought and sidelined by the pandemic, he embraced his lifelong love of gardening, focusing on effective water usage. A graduate of the Marin Master Gardener program in 2022, he coordinates the joint Marin Water/Marin Master Gardener Garden Walk program.
