3D Printing and Virtual Reality

Posted by on

Check out our 3D printer or to experiment with virtual reality using our VIVE virtual reality system.  Open to all ages!

3D Printing:

Drop in to watch our 3D printer in action and learn more about how it works. Those who attend will also be able to sign up to have an item from our pre-selected menu printed for them. No reservation is necessary for the 3D portion of the event.

VIVE and Oculus Go Virtual Reality:

Whether you’ve experimented with virtual reality systems or not, here is your chance to try out one of our many games. Fly around the planet and visit distant locations with Google Earth; step into a virtual work world with “Job Simulator;” or solve puzzles as you interact with a cool virtual world with “Retne.”

Reserve your place by stopping by a reference desk or calling the library at (415) 485-3321

You have the option of signing-up to use the Vive, or Oculus Go virtual reality systems.  Which should you choose?

The Oculus Go may be a good choice for those who haven’t experienced VR before and want a simple, fun first experience. With the Go you’ll be able to turn your head to see 360-degrees around you, but walking towards something will not bring you any closer to it. In contrast, with the Vive you are able to explore the full digital space that you see. However, it may take you a little bit longer to become comfortable using the Vive system.

History, Mystery, and Memoir: How Our Writing Partnership Put Us on the Path to Publication

Posted by bonnie on

Three local authors will be presenting their latest works. Come join us in the library’s Carnegie Reading Room on June 7, Thursday at 6:30pm.
Expect a lively discussion, free give-aways, and refreshments will be served.

History, Mystery, & Memoir:
How Our Writing Partnership Put Us On the Path to Publication

Amy S. Peele
Cut, a Medical Murder Mystery, 2017.
Amy has also written a memoir, Aunt Mary’s Guide to Raising Children the Old Fashioned Way.

Betsy Graziani Fasbinder
Filling Her Shoes, a Memoir of an Inherited Family, 2017.
Betsy has also written the novel, Fire and Water.

Christie Nelson
Beautiful Illusion, Treasure Island, 1939, 2018, a historical novel. Christie has also written two novels Woodacre and Dreaming Mill Valley.

Betsy Graziani Fasbinder, Christie Nelson, and Amy Peele have been together for seventeen years and continue to support and cheer one another on in their personal and professional lives. They call themselves The Bellas.

Betsy Graziani Fasbinder became a second mother to her first son when she married his widowed father. In her award-winning memoir, Filling Her Shoes: A Memoir of an Inherited Family, she reveals her conventional family that formed in an unconventional way, where love and loss are not opposites, but companions in life. The memoir has been honored with a Pinnacle Book Award, a Booklist Starred Review, an IPPY Award Gold Medal, and an Independent Press Award. Betsy is also the author of the award-winning novel, Fire & Water and has been a licensed psychotherapist in California since 1992 where she lives with her husband and their old blind doodle dog, her most faithful, if apathetic, writing companion, Edgar Alan Paw.
Betsy will give away a free audio version of Fire and Water.

Christie Nelson is a third generation San Franciscan, a longtime Marin resident, and author of the novels Woodacre, Dreaming Mill Valley and the newly published historical novel, Beautiful Illusion, Treasure Island, 1939, the story of the Golden Gate International Exposition. It has been described as “the next best thing to a time machine, a sparkling visit to Treasure Island’s fabulous world’s fair” by Anne Schnoebelen, Historian and VP of the Treasure Island Museum. The novel has been garnering “2018 Must-Read” accolades from publications including Buzzfeed and Parade Magazine.  She and her husband live in the 1880 brewmesiter’s house of the former San Rafael Brewery.
Christie will give away a copy of Beautiful Illusionwww.christienelson.com

Amy S. Peele, RN, enjoyed a 35 year career in transplantation and retired from UCSF in 2014. Her recently published, debut novel, CUT: a Medical Murder Mystery, has received several awards including winning in the 2017 Independent Press Awards.
CUT reflects her knowledge of and passion for organ donation and transplant issues in a suspenseful, yet humorous story, set in the Bay Area. It has been referred to as a page turner, and a mystery with a mission and a side of humor.
Amy loves comedy and improv and graduated from Chicago’s famed Second City Players Workshop in 1985. In addition to killing people in her mysteries and using their organs for transplant, she enjoys yoga and meditation.
Amy will give away a copy of CUT.

Explore Portugal & Southern Spain!

Posted by bonnie on

In conjunction with our Summer Reading Program…Reading Takes You Everywhere…

Explore Portugal & the Spanish Moorish cities of Seville, Grenada, & Cordoba with Rea Franjetic

Medieval castles, cobblestone villages, captivating cities and golden beaches: the Portugal experience can be many things. History, great food and idyllic scenery, that is why Portugal has become THE place to visit in 2018.

Continue into Spain’s most cosmopolitan area, bridging cultures of East and West and hub of a sea-borne empire, Seville, Cordoba and Granada. These cities retain both the swagger of its seafaring heyday, and the sensual flavor of Moorish al-Andalus.

Rea Christina Franjetic is owner and president of Cosmopolitan Adventure Tours, a member of the International Ecotourism Society since 1998
“Ecotourism: Conserve the environment and improve the well-being of local people”
