In part one, you’ll learn that it’s easier to self-publish an ebook than you might imagine. No technical expertise required! In this introductory, jargon-free primer to ebook self-publishing, we’ll cover the basics. To set the foundation and explore the ebook publishing opportunity, Jim Azevedo of Smashwords will cover the top trends impacting the publishing industry and what those trends mean for authors. Next, Jim will address the benefits of ebook self-publishing and will then dive into an ebook publishing checklist covering everything you need to know to get started, such as ebook formatting, metadata, pricing, distribution and more. Audience Q&A will follow at the end of the presentation.
Part 2: How to Market Self-Published Ebooks to Libraries
In part two, you’ll learn how public libraries curate, select and purchase ebooks. Delivered in an interview-style format, Henry Bankhead, City Librarian of San Rafael, and Jim Azevedo of Smashwords, will engage in a lively discussion that will address the challenges and opportunities self-published authors face when attempting to sell their ebooks to public libraries. You’ll hear the unique challenges public libraries, and librarians, face when it comes to new title acquisition. You’ll leave armed with the knowledge of how librarians prefer to be contacted and tips for how you can significantly improve the odds your ebook will be purchased by your local library. Henry and Jim will open the floor to audience Q&A following their discussion.
