What is the Student MyCard program?
The Student MyCard program grants students in participating school districts access to resources from the San Rafael Public Library and the Marin County Free Library using their student ID numbers. This initiative is designed to promote literacy and support educational success by ensuring students across Marin County have convenient access to library resources.
Students in participating school districts can now use their student ID number as a San Rafael Public Library account!
Simply add your school district code in front of your student ID number, without any spaces, like this: SRCS1234567890
When will I get a Student MyCard?
- Ongoing Rollout: All students in participating districts have immediate access to online resources. Please see How to Use Your Student MyCard below.
- New/Transfer Students: TK/Kindergarten and new/transfer elementary students receive physical cards in batches.
- Middle and High School Students: Can use their MyCard online. For a physical card, visit your local library branch.
- Students with existing library cards can also use those.
What can I do with a Student MyCard?
With a Student MyCard, students have FREE access to:
- Homework Help: Online resources covering various subjects and free tutoring in English and Spanish.
- Digital Borrowing: eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, movies, TV shows, and music.
- Library Computers: Use computers at any San Rafael Public Library branch.
- Physical Books and Media: Borrow materials from any San Rafael Public Library location or other libraries in Marin.
How to Use Your Student ID Number for Online Access
- Logging In: When prompted for your library card number, add your school district code in front of your student ID number, with no spaces. For example: SRCS1234567890.
- PIN/Password: If asked for a PIN/password, use the last four digits of the primary phone number listed for you at your school. If you already have a library card, use the PIN/password you set up with that card. Both your original card and the new Student MyCard number will work.
- Student ID Assistance: Not sure about your student ID number? Check with your teacher.
- Notifications: Your Student MyCard account is set to use your school email for hold notifications and reminders. To use a different email, log in to your account, select My Settings, then click Change under Email Address to update.
Need help with your PIN/password? Please contact your local library by phone or reach out to us online.

What if I don’t want my child to participate?
If you prefer that your child not have access to library resources through the Student MyCard Program, you can opt out.
- To opt out, print and sign this opt-out form (Español) and return it to your school office.
- Note: Students who opt out will not be able to participate in classroom use of library resources unless they have another San Rafael Public Library or Marin County Free Library card and know the full card number and PIN.
What if my child already has a San Rafael Public Library card?
That’s great! We encourage students to keep their existing library card in addition to their Student MyCard account. Both card numbers will continue to work.
