March 17 @ 2:00-3:30 – Together in a Sudden Strangeness edited by Alice Quinn, hosted by library staff member Margaret Stawowy

Come join librarian and poet Margaret Stawowy for a discussion of Together in a Sudden Strangeness: America’s Poets Respond to the Pandemic, edited by Alice Quinn. March 16th marks the second anniversary of shelter-in-place, and this book was created in the months immediately following that historic day. In the words of William Carlos Williams, “It is difficult to get the news from poems, yet men die miserably every day for lack of what is found there.” For this particular book club , we request that you find a poem in the book that speaks to you, and if you wish, to share it with us in the group and tell us why it is meaningful.

Zentangle with Romi Marks

Posted by bonnie on

Romi Marks will be providing online classes via Zoom every 3rd Wednesday of the month from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Romi has an art studio degree from Sonoma State and has been practicing the visual arts since childhood. She is a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT), educated by the creators of Zentangle, Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. Romi has been practicing and teaching Zentangle for many years, teaching at San Rafael Public Library since 2017.

Zentangle is a fun, relaxing and easy-to-learn art form that uses repetitive patterns to create beautiful images while improving focus and creativity. This new art form can be enjoyed by anyone, from beginners to professionals, providing artistic satisfaction and personal well being.

In this class you will delve in to the Zentanglemethod while creating a beautiful composition. Learn to draw patterns and use shading and color techniques to bring this Zentangle inspired composition to life. There will be a short guided meditation and lots of step by step instructions. This class is two hours so please plan accordingly. Join the call a few of minutes early so we can all begin on time. As space is limited, be respectful of the library and your fellow students by attending the class you have signed up for. If you sign up show up.

For beginners, you can pick up a one-time, free starter kit at the upstairs adult reference desk at the San Rafael Library (1100 E Street). The kit contains 4 – 4.5 x 4.5 Zentangle tiles, one Micron 05 pen, and colored pencils.

If you think you’ll be attending more classes, stock up on these supplies online or from your local art store:

Sakura Pigma Micron 05 pens, black

Zentangle Tiles 4.5 x 4.5″

Prisma colored pencils, or Staedtler colored pencils

Here is the Eventbright link to register for the Jan 19th class:

After registering you will receive an email from tangledyogi@romiart.com with the Zoom link.

Romi made a YouTube video of this class so if you could not attend or would like to experience Zentangle for the first time, click the link: https://youtu.be/K27cl334x6g
