All Things Apple! with Beryn Hammil
All Things Apple! is an online class via Zoom.
If you are new to All Things Apple! and would like to get on the contact list for classes, please email Librarian, Bonnie Groshong at: bonnie.groshong@cityofsanrafael.org
You will then receive an invitation from Beryn and instructions on how to join the class.
Pre-registration is a requisite for each class.
Invitations to register are sent out each THURSDAY morning for the following week’s class.
You must register for each class.
These class topics were put together based on input from students, and while some of these topics have been taught recently, there’s always something new to learn in each. The content of each topic description will be adhered to, but discussion is not limited to just what’s presented in this schedule as one thing often leads to another.
Doors for class will open 15 minutes prior to that class starting and we will start on time. When the class capacity of 100 participants is reached in the live Zoom room, those who get “locked out” will be able to view the class by live streaming it on YouTube. This is called the “Balcony Section.” Those who are registered to participate by half past the hour prior to class starting will receive an email with the link to the live stream. It will be sent out within 15 minutes of the class starting. If you’re viewing the class from the balcony, you will not be able to raise your hand to ask questions but can learn something new nonetheless.
At the end of each class participants can stay for a Q&A session about that or any other topic. Because many people leave at the formal end of class, those who are watching the class from the balcony section will be able to join the live after-class Q&A to have their questions answered. Simply go back to the original link you received to the join the Zoom class and use that to get in.
A recap video of each class will be available so you can review material on YouTube, and you can build your own library of them, but you must participate in that class to receive access to it. Instructions for how to do this are given in the orientation email you received with your welcome packet as well as in the email for the live stream YouTube link sent out before each class starts.
The time shown for all classes is Pacific Time; please adjust accordingly for where you are.
TUESDAY, APRIL 7th – CLEANING OUR COMPUTER & MOBILE DEVICES
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Let’s get rid of file redundancies, photos that are duplicates and even triplicates of each other, as well as outdated stuff that takes up valuable storage space. Let’s create folders to put items together by topic and color code things with tabs so they’re easy to find, and then learn how to search and retrieve them easily.
TUESDAY, APRIL 14th – iCLOUD; syncing and backing up the content of our devices
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Now that all our Apple devices are well-organized, we’ll review what syncing is and how to do it so all our Apple devices contain the same information and contents. We’ll review how to back up the contents on each of them so it’s safe should anything untoward happen to that device.
TUESDAY, APRIL 21st – GETTING READY TO TRAVEL
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Spring fever also gives us the opportunity to exercise our wanderlust; travel to see family and friends, and discover new parts of the world. So, let’s get our Apple devices ready to travel with us.
Learn how to keep them safe, what accessories you need so they can function efficiently when they’re away from home, and how to make calls and send text without breaking the bank.
TUESDAY, APRIL 28th – NO CLASS THIS WEEK NOR FOR THE MONTH OF MAY. I’M OUT IN THE WORLD…
FOR THOSE WHO LIVE IN MARIN COUNTY OR NEARBY…
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22nd – A LIVE CLASS ABOUT ONLINE SAFETY
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
As billions of dollars are being scammed from seniors, this is a hot topic, and, it’s a subject I’ve taught many times on Zoom. Now, the San Rafael library has invited me to give this presentation to people who are not in our class. But, of course, you’re more than welcome to attend, and I’d look forward to seeing you in person for a change!
I will not be sending an Invitation to Register for this presentation, so if you’re interested in attending, please send me an email requesting information about it, I’ll make a note of your interest and send you more details as it gets closer to that date.
NO CLASSES IN MAY…see you June 2nd, 9th, and 16th!
