Instructor Beryn Hammil will email you a welcome packet that includes detailed instructions on how to participate in the live Zoom meeting, stream from YouTube, or receive recap videos. You must register in advance on Zoom each week for each class you want to attend. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing links for joining the meeting 15 minutes before class.

Each topic will cover information for the Mac computer, iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

These class topics were put together based on input from students, and while some of these topics have been taught recently, there’s always something new to learn in each. The content of each topic description will be adhered to, but discussion is not limited to just what’s presented in this schedule as one thing often leads to another.

Doors for class will open 15 minutes prior to that class starting and we will start on time. When the class capacity of 100 participants is reached in the live Zoom room, those who get “locked out” will be able to view the class by live streaming it on YouTube. This is called the “Balcony Section.” Those who are registered to participate by half past the hour prior to class starting will receive an email with the link to the live stream. It will be sent out within 15 minutes of the class starting. If you’re viewing the class from the balcony, you will not be able to raise your hand to ask questions but can nonetheless learn something new.

At the end of each class participants can stay for a Q&A session about that or any other topic. Because many people leave at the formal end of class, those who are watching the class from the balcony section will be able to join the live after-class Q&A to have their questions answered. Simply go back to the original link you received to the join the Zoom class and use that to get in.

A recap video of each class will be available so you can review material on YouTube, and you can build your own library of them, but you must participate in that class to receive access to it. Instructions for how to do this are given in the orientation email you received with your welcome packet as well as in the email for the live stream YouTube link sent out before each class starts.

Pre-registration is a requisite for each class. Invitations to register are sent out each THURSDAY morning for the following week’s classes, and you must register for each class.

The time shown for all classes is Pacific Time; please adjust accordingly for where you are.

TUESDAY, JUNE 7th – ONLINE SECURITY & PRIVACY
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Beyond knowing how to stay safe online, the next thing to know is how to protect your online privacy. Apple has given us many tools to ensure that our information isn’t being taken for granted by websites and apps. Learn more about this important topic. We’ll also touch on the topic of “VPN’s” and if they’re useful or even necessary.

TUESDAY, JUNE 14th – THE HEALTH APP & SOS EMERGENCY
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Apple has made a commitment to our health. Discover how to take advantage of their interest in our well-being. Learn how to;

• set up and use the basic functions in the Health app,
• set up the Emergency SOS function that’s included in your iPhone and iPad. It could save your life!
• set up your emergency contact(s) so if something happens to you, they’re quickly notified automatically,
• set up Covid Exposure Notification

If you have a favorite app that you use to keep track of your health, we’d love to hear about it, so be prepared to share what you like.

TUESDAY, JUNE 21st – CONTROL CENTER, SIRI & WIDGETS
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Learn how to set up Control Center to give you instant access to the functions you use the most on your mobile devices and your Mac computer. There’s a world of answers to most of your questions at your fingertips or voice command and many other functions that Siri can do when you know how to use it effectively on all your devices. With Widgets you get timely information at a quick glance from your favorite apps on your mobile devices. Learn how to set up this function and use it effectively.

TUESDAY, JUNE 28th – TIPS & TRICKS + OPEN DISCUSSION / Q & A
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

There are so many little things that can enhance your experience on each device. I’ll run through a short list so you’ll learn how to be more efficient and feel more accomplished with your Apple devices. If you have a trick or tip that you love and want to share, send it to me no later than 3:00 PM (Pacific time) the day before the class so I can demonstrate how to do it and we can all benefit from your knowledge.

The Q&A segment of this class will be determined by whatever you want to learn and discuss, so have your questions ready.

If you know in advance that you have a specific question, please email it to Beryn no later than 3:00 PM (PDT) the day before the class so I can prepare the answer.

I look forward to seeing you in our Zoom classes.

THERE WILL BE NO CLASSES IN JULY: it’s time for a short break. I’m sure you have many other things that you want to do this month. Now you’ll have time for them. Enjoy!
