If you are new to All Things Apple! and would like to get on the contact list and register for classes, please send your request via email to: library@cityofsanrafael.org

After receiving your request, Instructor Beryn Hammil will email you a welcome packet that includes detailed instructions on how to participate in the live Zoom meeting, stream from YouTube, or receive recap videos. You must register in advance on Zoom each week for each class you want to attend. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing links for joining the meeting 15 minutes before class.

Pre-registration is a requisite for each class. Invitations to register are sent out each THURSDAY morning for the following week’s classes, and you must register for each class separately.

______________________________________________

Each topic will cover information for the Mac computer, iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
These class topics were put together based on input from students, and while some of these topics have been taught recently, there’s always something new to learn in each. The content of each topic description will be adhered to, but discussion is not limited to just what’s presented in this schedule as one thing often leads to another.
Doors for class will open 15 minutes prior to that class starting and we will start on time. When the class capacity of 100 participants is reached in the live Zoom room, those who get “locked
out” will be able to view the class by live streaming it on YouTube. This is called the “Balcony Section.” Those who are registered to participate by half past the hour prior to class starting will
receive an email with the link to the live stream. It will be sent out within 15 minutes of the class starting. If you’re viewing the class from the balcony, you will not be able to raise your hand to
ask questions but can nonetheless learn something new. At the end of each class participants can stay for a Q&A session about that or any other topic.
Because many people leave at the formal end of class, those who are watching the class from the balcony section will be able to join the live after-class Q&A to have their questions answered.
Simply go back to the original link you received to the join the Zoom class and use that to get in.
A recap video of each class will be available so you can review material on YouTube, and you can build your own library of them, but you must participate in that class to receive access to it.
Instructions for how to do this are given in the orientation email you received with your welcome packet as well as in the email for the live stream YouTube link sent out before each class starts.
Pre-registration is a requisite for each class. Invitations to register are sent out each THURSDAY morning for the following week’s class, and you must register for each class.
The time shown for all classes is Pacific Time; please adjust accordingly for where you are.

SEPTEMBER SCHEDULE

IT’S ALL ABOUT ORGANIZING YOUR DEVICES!
Let’s clear out the proverbial “junk drawer” that your computer has become and put things where they’re easier to access and retrieve later!
Our updated class format encourages greater student participation. Your input on each of these topics will be valuable and appreciated so we can all learn from your experience and wisdom.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 6TH – ORGANIZE YOUR COMPUTER & MOBILE DEVICES
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Learn how to set up and group things into Folders so your computer is well-organized by subject. These principles of organization apply whether you’re working on a Mac or PC. Then learn how to search on your Mac for a specific file, topic, or item that you’ve put into a folder or that’s in an app. Once your computer is well-organized, learn how to use the Files app in your mobile devices so
you can retrieve an item that’s in your computer and synced to your iCloud account even when you’re not near the computer itself. This works for PCs too using iCloud for Windows.
And, if you need to have a lot of stuff on your Mac computer’s desktop, learn how to use Stacks to clear the clutter while you’re working and how to use Tags to group categories together to
help you retrieve items.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 13TH – BOOKMARKS, FOLDERS, ALBUMS and LISTS
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Learn how to organize some of your most frequently used apps; Safari has Bookmarks Photos has Folders and Albums, Notes has Folders and sub-folders, and Reminders has Lists. Each of
these apps gives you a way to organize and quickly find what you’ve saved for easy retrieval later.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 20TH – MAILBOXES AND GROUPS
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Learn how the Contacts app Group function enables you to organize your contacts so you can quickly access a specific group of people. Then learn how to efficiently send emails just to those
people you’ve grouped together. Learn how to use the Notes app to make lists of email addresses that you don’t necessarily want in your Contacts app and then show to send an email to this group.
Learn how to set up and use Mailboxes in the Mail app. It allows you to organize your correspondence in a meaningful way so you can easily find specific emails later.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 27TH – OVERVIEW OF iOS 16 SOFTWARE UPDATE,
ORGANIZATION RELATED TIPS & TRICKS + OPEN DISCUSSION and Q&A
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Apple is releasing a software update (iOS 16) for our mobile devices earlier this month. I’ll review a few of its highlights so you can get up to speed on it. There are so many little things that can enhance your experience on each device. I’ll run through a short list so you’ll learn how to be more efficient and feel more accomplished with your Apple devices.
The Q&A segment of this class will be determined by whatever you want to learn and discuss, so have your questions ready.

If you know in advance that you have a specific question, please email it to me no later than noon (PDT) the day before the class so I can prepare the answer.

PLANNING AHEAD
As of right now there will be no classes in October. The world beckons me and I’m venturing out into it! So that you can make your holiday plans accordingly, the November and December class schedules will be published in late September.
