Instructor Beryn Hammil will email you a welcome packet that includes detailed instructions on how to participate in the live Zoom meeting, stream from YouTube, or receive recap videos. You must register in advance on Zoom each week for each class you want to attend. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing links for joining the meeting 15 minutes before class.

Each topic will cover information for the Mac computer, iPhone, iPadand the Apple Watch (as appropriate).

These class topics were put together based on input from students, and while some of these topics have been taught recently, there’s always something new to learn in each. The content of each topic description will be adhered to, but discussion is not limited to just what’s presented in this schedule as one thing often leads to another.

Doors for class will open 15 minutes prior to that class starting and we will start on time. When the class capacity of 100 participants is reached in the live Zoom room, those who get “locked out” will be able to view the class by live streaming it on YouTube. This is called the “Balcony Section.” Those who are registered to participate by half past the hour prior to class starting will receive an email with the link to the live stream. It will be sent out within 15 minutes of the class starting. If you’re viewing the class from the balcony, you will not be able to raise your hand to ask questions but can learn something new nonetheless.

At the end of each class participants can stay for a Q&A session about that or any other topic. Because many people leave at the formal end of class, those who are watching the class from the balcony section will be able to join the live after-class Q&A to have their questions answered. Simply go back to the original link you received to the join the Zoom class and use that to get in.

A recap video of each class will be available so you can review material on YouTube, and you can build your own library of them, but you must participate in that class to receive access to it. Instructions for how to do this are given in the orientation email you received with your welcome packet as well as in the email for the live stream YouTube link sent out before each class starts.

Pre-registration is a requisite for each class. Invitations to register are sent out each THURSDAY morning for the following week’s class, and you must register for each class.

The time shown for all classes is Pacific Time; please adjust accordingly for where you are.

YOU ASKED FOR IT!

After our summer hiatus we’re returning to our Zoom “classroom” with a newfound appreciation of all that these amazing devices can do to make our lives easier. Or not!

Perhaps you’ve discovered that your computer isn’t as well-organized as you’d like it to be but can’t remember what you learned the last time we discussed this. Or that you’re not as up to speed on the Notes app as you could be. Maybe all the photos you took on your summer holiday need to be better organized.

These topics were the theme of the responses I received from many of you when I asked what you’d like to learn this month. So here we are…

Because switching back and forth between the iPhone and iPad is not do-able during our Zoom cIass, whatever the discussion and demonstration is for the iPhone, it’s usually applicable to the iPad too.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 5th – NO CLASS; LABOR DAY WEEKEND TRAVEL DAY

Many of you are either still on vacation or traveling home from one, so rather than starting the month with many people absent, we’ll use this day to reorient ourselves back to reality.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 12th – ORGANIZING YOUR COMPUTER AND iPHONE/iPAD & USING THE FILES APP

2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

· Mac: Learn how to set up and group things into folders so your computer is well-organized by subject. These principles of organization apply whether you’re working on a Mac or PC. Then learn how to search your Mac for a specific file, topic, or word with an item that you’ve put into a folder or that’s in an app.

· iPhone & iPad; Learn how to create app folders so you can group apps by topic. Discover the App Library, and how to find an app easily even if you can’t remember where you put it. Then learn how to search your device to find what you’re looking for.

· Once your computer is well-organized, learn how to use the Files app in your mobile devices so you can retrieve an item that’s in your computer and synced to your iCloud account even when you’re not near the computer itself. This works for PCs too using iCloud for Windows.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 19th – CREATING PHOTO ALBUMS IN YOUR COMPUTER & MOBILE DEVICES

2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Learn how to:

· Create albums and folders so your photos are well organized,

· Fine and retrieve photos from within the app using a variety of methods.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 26th – THE NOTES APP (my favorite Apple app)

2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Learn how to:

· create a Note,

· organize your Notes with folders and sub-folders,

· scan a document and take a photo to put into a Note,

· add photos and web links from any of your devices to the Note,

· create charts and lists,

· share your Note with someone else. They can even work on that Note with you. Or not.

THERE WILL NOT BE A “TIPS & TRICKS, Q & A + OPEN DISCUSSION” CLASS THIS MONTH SO THAT WE CAN COVER MORE OF THE REQUESTED TOPICS, BUT I’LL BE SURE TO ADD A FEW TIPS & TRICKS THROUGHOUT THE ABOVE SCHEDULED CLASSES. AND YOU’RE ALWAYS WELCOME TO STAY AT THE END OF EVERY CLASS FOR A GENERAL OPEN DISCUSSION AND Q&A SESSION.
