All Things Apple! with Beryn Hammil
All Things Apple! is an online class via Zoom.
If you are new to All Things Apple! and would like to get on the contact list for classes, please email Librarian, Javier Morales at: javier.morales@cityofsanrafael.org
You will then receive an invitation from Beryn and instructions on how to join the class.
Pre-registration is a requisite for each class.
Invitations to register are sent out each THURSDAY morning for the following week’s class, and you must register for each class.
These class topics were put together based on input from students, and while some of these topics have been taught recently, there’s always something new to learn in each. The content of each topic description will be adhered to, but discussion is not limited to just what’s presented in this schedule as one thing often leads to another.
Doors for class will open 15 minutes prior to that class starting and we will start on time. When the class capacity of 100 participants is reached in the live Zoom room, those who get “locked out” will be able to view the class by live streaming it on YouTube. This is called the “Balcony Section.” Those who are registered to participate by half past the hour prior to class starting will receive an email with the link to the live stream. It will be sent out within 15 minutes of the class starting. If you’re viewing the class from the balcony, you will not be able to raise your hand to ask questions but can learn something new nonetheless.
At the end of each class participants can stay for a Q&A session about that or any other topic. Because many people leave at the formal end of class, those who are watching the class from the balcony section will be able to join the live after-class Q&A to have their questions answered. Simply go back to the original link you received to the join the Zoom class and use that to get in.
A recap video of each class will be available so you can review material on YouTube, and you can build your own library of them, but you must participate in that class to receive access to the recap video. Instructions for how to do this are given in the orientation email you received with your welcome packet as well as in the email for the live stream YouTube link sent out before each class starts.

Where did the summer go? Did time speed up? Or was I having so much fun that it sped by this
quickly? With that said, we have a new schedule of classes to delve into so we can become even
smarter about All Things Apple.
TUESDAY, SEPT 1st – MASHUP
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
A new topic; “Mashup” Its definition is “a mixture of disparate elements,” and in this particular case, topics that are too small for an entire class to be devoted to them. In this class we’ll review the following functions for your iPhone and iPad;
– Control center: where you get to manage various functions in your iPhone
– Widgets: a handy way to organize frequently used apps
– Focus; how to silence your devices for predetermined periods.
– iPhone Folders & App Library; how to organize your apps by topic, how to find them, and how to use the App Library
TUESDAY, SEPT 8th – SOME MAC FUNCTIONS
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
On our Mac, we’ll review how to use Launchpad so we can easily get to all the apps in our computer.
We’ll also review how to put apps on the Dock so we can open them quickly. And now that you know how to use Control Center and Focus on your mobile devices, let’s learn how to set them up and use them on the computer too.
TUESDAY, SEPT 15th – MASHUP

There are a lot of apps already in our devices that Apple conveniently provided us. Many of them are too small to devote an entire class to it, so again, we’ll have a Mashup class
for them.
Let’s review the following apps on both the Mac and iPhone and iPad.
– Voice memos; record & transcribe
– Find My app
– Clock
And if there’s time for some others, they’ll be included too…I’ll teach those on the fly…
TUESDAY, SEPT 22nd – PHOTOS APP; MAC & iPHONE

Because we’ve recently been learning how to organize our devices (which I assumeyou’ve been working on), it’s also important to know how to organize the thousands of
photos that we have in them.
In this class we’ll review the Photos app; how to create and organize albums within it. We’ll also review how to retrieve photos within the app using handy functions already built into the app.
TUESDAY, SEPT 29th – NO CLASS THIS WEEK
Because it’s a five week month, this week we’ll have a little break from All Things Apple.
